Radyr Sidings, a key brownfield site in Cardiff is being redeveloped to provide quality housing and improved transport access for city residents. The site, with an area of 13.5 acres, will create around 120 homes as well as better access to the local station, existing houses and into the Radyr Woods nature area.
The site, which has been one of the most sought after residential sites in Cardiff, has been sold by Cooke & Arkwright acting on behalf of the owner, Railtrack to Westbury Homes. It will be developed with high quality housing.
Commenting on the sale, Michael Lawley, Managing Director of Cooke & Arkwright, who handled the sale, said, “ The disposal of this site to Westbury in the face of fierce competition is the end of a lengthy period of work to bring the site to the market and to achieve regeneration of a derelict site. It brings benefits in terms of access and environment to the local community.”
Kirsten Durie of Railtrack said; “The successful disposal of the site is part of Railtrack’s national programme of disposing of sites which are no longer required for operational purposes and will help aid the infrastructure investment programme. The improvements to the access to Radyr Station are welcome. Railtrack Property is actively redeveloping (and decontaminating) many of its brownfield sites, meeting the challenge of the government’s development strategies and improving and enhancing the immediate environment.”
David Mills, Managing Director of Westbury South Wales, said that he was, “Extremely pleased to have secured the site.” Mr Mills also added that, “ Westbury’s policy is to purchase land in the best possible locations in order to satisfy customer demand for quality homes.”
