Loseley Dairy Ice Cream Ltd, owner of the well-known South Wales brand Thayers, has acquired a prestigious new headquarters building from private clients of chartered surveyors Cooke and Arkwright.  The premises on Llantarnam Park, Cwmbran extend to some 78,000 square feet on 13.25 acres.

Managing Director of Loseley, Tim Wilson, said: “It is our intention to create a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, the finest in Europe, with the unique feature of a visitor centre.

“A high level, fully enclosed walkway running the full length of the factory will enable visitors to observe the complete production process.”

Sited only minutes from the M4, Cwmbran lies within two hours drive of half the UK population and Mr Wilson expects the visitor centre to be a major attraction drawing considerable numbers to Wales.

Special facilities for school parties are to be provided, and with business studies featuring on almost every school curriculum, Mr Wilson confidently expects the centre to be a ‘must’ for educational visits.

“This is an extremely modern site, well suited to meet the needs of Loseley,” said David Cochlin of Cooke & Arkwright. “It also offers easy access and plenty of room for expansion.”

A new range of impulse lines will be available for Thayers during 2003 and major marketing support will be provided for the brand through a strong presence at agricultural shows across Wales.

The Welsh Assembly is supporting the new factory project and Mr Wilson explained that one of the reasons the company has chosen to locate in Wales is the excellent availability of skilled engineers for the new state-of-the-art machinery.  The factory will bring about 100 new jobs to the area.
