Cooke & Arkwright has been appointed Professional Services Property Consultant to advise the Welsh Assembly Government on its prestigious SA1 Waterfront Development in Swansea.
The firm will manage the 100 acre site and handle the acquisition and relocation of the remaining existing businesses within the site on behalf of the Department for Enterprise, Innovation and Networks (DEIN), formerly the Welsh Development Agency, under a three year contract.
SA1 Swansea Waterfront is being developed on an impressive scale to include 2,000 plus apartments and houses, 700,000 sq ft of offices, 312,000 sq ft for commercial leisure, a 116-bed hotel and 180,000 sq ft of onshore marine facilities.
Two new pedestrian/cycle bridges, Sail Bridge and Lock Bridge, link the western boundary to the Maritime Quarter and the Technium Swansea centres, a flagship development providing a technology-led business incubation environment. Further developments include Cyprium, which has been let to Admiral Insurance; J-Shed, where 33,000 sq ft has been renovated to incorporate restaurants, bars and offices, as well as 20 duplex lofts; a range of apartments developed by Bellway and Quest; and a 116 bed De Vere Village Hotel with conference and leisure facilities.
Directors Philip Angell, of Cooke & Arkwright’s Property Management Consultancy and Andrew West, who heads the firm’s Statutory Valuation Consultancy, both have extensive knowledge of this type of instruction having previously undertaken similar roles for a variety of clients. This includes advising Cardiff Bay Development Corporation on the acquisition and management of various strategic sites within the regeneration area of 1,100 hectares of dockland in Cardiff and Penarth, from the period of its inception in 1987 to the time the Corporation was wound up in the year 2000.
“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to play a significant part in the exciting regeneration taking place at SA1 Swansea Waterfront,” said Mr Angell. “It is already changing the face of Swansea and we look forward to working with the DEIN and occupiers at SA1 to continue this process.”
