Cardiff University has bought the former NPI headquarters comprising 80,000 square feet, at 30-36 Newport Road, Cardiff. The largest office transaction this year to-date (1st November) the purchase represents a multi-million pound investment on the part of the University, which will integrate its administration and free civic centre space for its world-ranked research.
Andrew Gardner, Director at Cooke & Arkwright who acted for the University said, “This is a landmark building which replicates the high profile of the University in the city. It was considered particularly attractive to the University due to its prominence, accessibility and flexibility in terms of the nature of the space provided.”
The 80,000 square feet, twelve-storey building is a short walk from the University’s main civic centre campus and across the road from the Queen’s Building complex, which accommodates its schools of engineering, physics and computing. The University currently has more than 15,600 students and more than 3,400 staff. Already ranked among the top tier of Britain’s leading research and teaching universities, this purchase and on-going development of the academic estate reflects the University’s strong ambition to gain recognition as a world-class university. Other current investments include a new £16million complex for the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences; a £14million pound development of a new Life Sciences Building; and a new £4million building to provide extra facilities for computer science and physics.
