National bakery retailer, Greggs has taken up residence in the premises of the company that designs, manufactures and supplies bread ovens to all its stores. It has opened a shop at Mono Equipment’s 80,000 sq ft premises in Swansea West Industrial Park, where it is now effectively showcasing some of the latest oven equipment in a working environment.

National bakery retailer Greggs has embarked upon its pledged ‘accelerated’ expansion programme in 2010 by securing two new locations in Regent Trade Park and Avenue Retail Park in Cardiff. The new stores will create two dozen new jobs and start the drive to add 50 to 60 new premises to its estate this year.

One of Cardiff’s best known city centre landmark buildings, which has been empty since October 2007, is to get a new lease of life after Cooke & Arkwright negotiated a long term letting to Beatbox Bars Ltd. The Grade 11 listed former South Glamorgan Staff Club in Westgate Street is undergoing a complete re-fit by Beatbox, which already runs three of Cardiff’s most successful independent gastro-bars: Buffalo in Windsor Place, 10 Feet Tall in Church Street and Mr Smith’s in Cathays.

A retail ‘quarter’ is taking shape at Newport’s £100m Celtic Springs Business Park. A parade of shops close to the existing Dragon Fly pub and restaurant and Express at Holiday Inn, to the east of the park, will add to the facilities already present at the 45- acre business park adjacent to the A48 and near junction 28 of the M4. One of the three planned shops has already been snapped up by Greggs, who are eager to open for business on the park by the end of the year. The new store will lead to the creation of 12 new jobs.

Is the time ripe for entrepreneurs to take on the high street?
The “credit crunch” and its ongoing effects have all been well documented. Nowhere has the destructive nature of reduced credit in our debt dependent nation been more evident than in the high streets across the country. Cardiff’s best loved deli, Wally’s Delicatessen has bucked the downward trend on the high street and doubled the size of its long established outlet in Royal Arcade, Cardiff. The popular 60 year old store acquired the lease on adjoining premises of 2,170 sq ft, through agents Cooke & Arkwright in March and immediately began full refurbishment work alongside the existing deli. The fully extended store will open on Monday, 8th June 2009.
