Porthcawl Harbourside to re-launch key resort

The proposals for the regeneration of Porthcawl and its waterfront have reached a new milestone with the commencement of marketing.  Under a joint arrangement between Bridgend County Borough Council and the principal private landowner, the first flagship phase of Porthcawl Waterfront, known as Porthcawl Harbourside, was launched on 28th March 2008. Property advisors Cooke & Arkwright have been instructed to market the 17 acre site to developers for a substantial mixed use scheme.

Empty Property Rates kick in

02/04/08

From April 1st 2008, with a few exceptions, all unoccupied commercial property in England and Wales became liable to 100% business rates due to the abolition of empty property rate (EPR) relief, first introduced almost 30 years ago. In addition, the commencement of the exemption period has been set retrospectively, meaning that anyone with a property that has been empty for more than six months for industrial, or three months for all other commercial property, becomes liable to full rates with immediate effect.

City centre landmark on market

One of Cardiff’s best known city centre landmark buildings and popular former hostelry which closed last October has been put on the market, presenting a prime commercial opportunity. The Grade II-listed former South Glamorgan Staff Club, which is situated directly opposite the main entrance to the Millennium Stadium, was sold at auction in February to a private client advised by chartered surveyors Cooke & Arkwright.

ABP signals a job well done at Waterfront Barry

23/10/07

The property market received a massive boost this week as Associated British Ports (ABP) and the Welsh Assembly Government agreed the sale of the final 41-hectare (100 acres) of prime development land at the flagship Waterfront Barry regeneration scheme in South Wales. The remaining site is set to be developed by a consortium of leading housebuilders comprising Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon Homes and Barratt Homes. The £350 million development will set new standards for sustainable construction in Wales - with the new homes and the commercial development designed to the highest environmental standards.
